SMART Recovery Canada Giving Tuesday 2026 Donate
October 26 to December 5, 2026

Recovery reaches
everyone.

Addictive or other concerning behaviours rarely affect just one person. Children, partners, parents, siblings, friends, coworkers, and even the pets who share their home can feel the impact. When someone gets support and starts making changes, the benefits can reach their home, their workplace, and the wider community.

Help us raise $25,000 by December 5. Giving Tuesday, December 1, is our biggest day.

Every gift is matched dollar for dollar, up to $3,500, by Mosaic Home Services.

The need in Canada

Why SMART matters

Canadian data shows how far addictive and other concerning behaviours reach, and how many people are still looking for support.

FamiliesAbout 11 million

people in Canada aged 15 and older have a family member who has faced problems with their emotions, mental health, or use of alcohol or drugs.

Access to careMore than 1 in 3

Recovery can reach just as far. A meeting gives someone a place to start, close to home or online.

Who we are

New to SMART Recovery Canada?

SMART Recovery Canada is a registered Canadian charity. We run science-based mutual support meetings for people changing addictive or other concerning behaviours, and for the families and friends who support them. Trained facilitators lead every meeting, online and in person.

Heard of SMART before? SMART Recovery has supported people around the world for more than 30 years. SMART Recovery Canada officially launched in January 2026 as part of that worldwide network.

Online meetings are open to people in every province and territory, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. SMART can sit alongside culture-based, community-led healing. It never replaces it.

Science-based tools

Practical skills people use to make changes and build a balanced, meaningful life.

Shared support

Respectful, judgment-free meetings where people share experiences and learn from one another.

Never a cost to attend

Meetings are at no cost to participants, online and in person.

The ripple effect

One person's recovery reaches further than you think

When someone gets support to make a change, the people around them feel it too. Here is how far a single recovery can travel.

It starts with one person

Someone joins a meeting, sets their own goals and starts practising new skills. Meetings are at no cost to participants.

Then it reaches their family

Home starts to feel steadier. Our Family & Friends program supports loved ones directly.

Then their workplace

Steadier days and stronger teams. Organizations can also train staff to run SMART meetings on site.

Then the whole community

More than 250 meetings, online and in person, give people a place to connect close to home.

What your gift makes possible

Help recovery reach further

SMART Recovery meetings are at no cost to participants. Donors make that possible. Your gift helps keep a place available where someone can feel understood, learn new skills, and begin making changes.

  • Start more meetings

Open new meetings in communities that don't have one yet, including rural, remote, and northern areas.

  • Train more facilitators

To bring meetings to every community, we need more trained facilitators. Your gift prepares new facilitators and supports the ones already leading meetings.

  • Keep 250+ meetings running

Fund the technology, scheduling, and coordination behind more than 250 active meetings, from Yukon to Newfoundland and Labrador.

  • Share practical tools

Keep handbooks, worksheets, and resources within reach for participants and the people who support them.

100% of donations stay in Canada. Every gift goes where it is needed most.

Questions

Giving Tuesday questions

What does my gift support?

Your gift supports SMART Recovery Canada's charitable work across the country, including new and existing meetings, facilitator training and support, tools and resources, and the technology and coordination that keep meetings running. Gifts are directed where they are needed most.

Does my donation stay in Canada?

Yes. 100% of donations to SMART Recovery Canada stay in Canada and support people here.

Will I get a tax receipt?

Yes. CanadaHelps emails you an official tax receipt when you donate. Tax receipts can only go to an individual or a company, so group gifts don't receive one. If your group collects gifts for SMART Recovery Canada, send each donor's full name, mailing address and exact amount with your e-transfer, and we can send each person their own receipt.

Can I help without donating?

Yes. Sharing this page with family, friends, coworkers, or community contacts helps the campaign reach people who may want to support SMART. Share the campaign

Can I give monthly or in someone's honour?

Yes. The donation form lets you give once or monthly, and dedicate your gift to someone special. For gifts of securities and partnerships, see other ways to give.
